After putting a electric insert in my real fireplace in the living room and really liking it I wanted another feasible unit for the bedroom and searched and researched - I knew a wall mounted version that could sit on my high dresser would work but few models had pedestals (such a this one)...AND I wanted the fake log look and not the plastic ice cube effect...and with a remote. I finally selected this model based on those requirements. After using it in a spare to burn off the electric smell I assembled it in my bedroom - on my own...left heavy HEAVY front glass off and tried to put that on last while unit was on top of high dresser but couldn't get that damn thing to align correctly - took back down and put on glass front and then OMG tried to get it on top of dresser but it what so heavy - finally after damaging front of dresser I got the dang thing up on top of it and plugged into wall. Put together it looks nice - not sure why the glass front is so large since most of it is black border that just hides messy unnecessary metal work of unit (unless size is necessary for heat element). Okay - in the daylight it looks really kinda ugly - the back component is a thin cheap beige plastic that the fake flames 'dance up' but looks ugly in full light and has light scratches on it which you can see and of course the fake logs look well fake. BUT at night it looks great - the dancing flames do look real as well as the embers glowing of the fake logs. AND the thing can actually throw out the heat (has a low and high setting)...I turn it on at night to warm up the room a bit and then turn the heat off and turn down the flames to a lower setting (you can dim or increase the flame setting) and hop into bed and I find it somehow strangely soothing and I fall off to sleep with it going - I usually wake up midway thru the night for obvious reasons and then will turn it off. Sometimes I turn the heat on in the a.m. to warm up the room a bit before jumping outta' bed. Hopefully unit will last a bit - seems well made but ya' never know...
