I researched several makes and manufacturers of media consoles w/built in electric fireplaces. This was the most modern and visually appealing that I found and that would fit my TV. I first found this item through another website that had a lot of people commenting on how the item showed up w/punctures in the box and the in item itself. I tried to find this at a bricks & mortar store, but no one seemed to stock it. I saw that there were no reviews on Amazon, and I know Amazon backs all 3rd party sales, so gave it a whirl. After all, online discussion forums often naturally attract an influx of negative posts.The packages were promptly delivered in about 5 business days from Wisconsin and arrived while I was at work. Upon returning home I found the boxes w/several punctures. The item itself had several issues that occurred due to poor packaging:- One of the small stapled/glued pieces had broken off- There was a scratch approximately 4 feet long across the top portion- There was a medium puncture in one of the cabinet side wallsI didn't even bother opening the box that contained the fireplace.At this point I've clicked around on the Amazon customer service page to get an RMA started. Amazon sent me an email saying that the RMA request has been sent to Cymax, the 3rd party seller. If Cymax gives me the run around as reported by consumers on other sites, I'll ask Amazon to refund the purchase through their A to Z Guarantee.As for the product itself, I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was made of a higher quality material than I had expected. It was comparable to the type of material used in most faux wood products at Ikea, but definitely not made of real wood planks. I didn't assemble the parts together, but it looks like the item would look just as attractive as the pics online, if not more so, though it was a touch darker than I expected, which I was also happy about. It's a self-assemble piece, like Ikea furniture, that uses hardware similar to what you'd find at Ikea. Upon opening the boxes there was a strong chemical smell, which was a little concerning given media reports of slack regulatory environments at offshore manufacturing sites. The smell may have just been the styrofoam it was packed in though.Update: I filed a complaint w/Amazon, they sent that to the seller, the seller then worked with me to replace the damaged pieces. This process took around 3 weeks and wasn't very smooth. Now that I've assembled the item, it looks good and does a decent job. The fireplace is decent, but not amazing. The visuals are not very realistic or impressive, but could be worse. The worst feature is that the shelves slide out/off entirely too easily and come crashing down any time you move something on them. The pins/bolts that hold them up need to be placed closer to the middle, or a third pin needs to be added. Overall I feel as though I overpaid for an alright item. I like the item and am glad I have it, but feel as though I should have paid $100-200 less for it, and that's not even accounting for all of the Customer Service haggles.

It was easy to put together as I did it alone. It compliments my room, looks like a classy piece of furniture and love the fun fireplace on cold days.
