We moved into a condo with two of these 2500W (240V) 8' units in the living room. The units produce a noticeable hum. This is the only 8' unit our local Home Depot carries. Luckily the smaller Ace Hardware store had the 2000W version of the 8' long Cadet. I installed this tonight and the hum is very much reduced and we are happy. I think the longer 8' baseboards are plagued with being more noisy than the shorter units (as noted in reviews for the almond color of this same unit). I will also note that we wanted a programmable thermostat and we could not find any that could accommodate 5000 Watts, but we found one that can handle 4000W, so the two quieter 2000W baseboards will work. I'd suggest getting several shorter units to get up to your desired wattage and avoid the 8' long baseboards (particularly the noisier 2500W model).
